The CouchSurfing Begins

Well, the less interesting part of the journey has ended and now the cultural immersion begins. Bruges, Belgium was my first CouchSurfing destination, but I am currently at my fourth in Lille, France. Since all I wanted to do was meet local people, everything is going perfectly. Usually the host shows me around town, then we start doing normal things, like going to the bars, cafes, grocery stores, and hanging out with friends. I end up seeing most of the city and sights on the way to these other destinations, as a local would. Thus, in 6 nights in Kortrijk, the only actual traditional tourism I did was see the Gent Licht (Light) Festival and the castle walls of Ieper. I only took two pictures, but here is someone else’s video: , http://www.lichtfestivalgent.be/en/lfg-2012. Other than that, I have been having a lot of home cooked meals, like in Milan. The hosts usually cook and I put in for groceries and do the dishes. There are too many cuisines to mention at this point. The most important were breakfasts and exotic foods, namely horse, unpasteurized cheese, leek, and Belgian and French crepes separately.

Well, back to work…
